Okay, I'll list TX and OK since I've lived in both places. I don't have any idea about an international marathon but hopefully I'll be doing one once we're living in Germany and I'll be sure to let you know about it when the time comes.
TX- Chevron Houston Marathon, it's super flat, perfect weather and has amazing crowd support. Also, it's a Boston Qualifier if that's your cup of tea.
OK- OKC Memorial Marathon, I've never done this one or been a spectator but anyone who is anyone in Oklahoma runs this (clearly, I am no one), I'm sure Shana has already told you about her experience.

Gotta, gotta come and do the Chicago Marathon. It's awesome, flat and fast with excellent crowd support and one of the 5 majors. But you've already run in IL...

This is not my state but you've gotta do the 1/2 or full in Grand Rapids, MI. It was the scene of my first BQ in 2008 and race director Marathon Don makes it perfection. I'll be back this October for the half and am so excited about it!

Also not my state but the Indy 500 Mini is awesome--so cool to run on the race track!

ooooo, I like your goal list!
Trail race: Greenland 25k is a good starter trail race here in Co.Springs...nice smooth trail

The Sage Burner here in Gunnison, CO is a bad-ass trail race if you're brave..

The St. George, UT marathon is GORGEOUS and fast and well organized...a must do, but you've got to win the lottery to get in.

oh...I almost forgot. Also must do is The Other Half in Moab, UT. The Canyonlands Half in the spring is nice too and hard to get in, but The Other Half is in the fall..better scenery...and smaller AND they have beer at the end.

Come do the St. Jude in Memphis, Tn! It's my first half and I'm super pumped!

I follow you and think that is a GREAT idea! Chicago Marathon was my first full and I'm glad it was -- flat and awesome crowd support!

The Madison Mini Marathon is awesome and a scenic way to see Madison, Wisconsin and the University. I'm so excited to be running it again on Saturday!

If you come to Canada you can do the Scotiabank 1/2 in Vancouver - it's downhill and mostly flat along the beach. It's a great sight-seeing race.

For a full I'll recommend the Victoria Marathon (BC, Canada) even though I haven't run it yet - but I will be on 10.10.10. Nice that the giveaway corresponds... I really need a new pair of these! :p

Akron Marathon in Ohio is a great one, not flat but great crowd support and constant change in scenery and you get a very beautiful Brooks jacket instead of just a tech shirt.

London or Beijing will be a great international marathon.

The 50k trail races in Ohio are great and if you are so incline the Burning River 100 race is an awesome well organized race.

The Bolder Boulder in Boulder, CO is a great memorial day 10k
The altitude can be brutal though.
My first 1/2 is coming up so I'm not sure how it will be!

Following you now...

I doubt you'll get many (any?) Wyoming recommendations, so I will recommend El Vaquero Loco (the crazy cowboy!). It is an awesome trail race (you can do either 25K or 50K) in the beautiful Rocky Mountains in Star Valley Wyoming. The course is tough, but insanely scenic and people travel from all over to run it. There are good goodies and they barbecue hamburgers afterwards. It's a great atmosphere.

A great run to do in another exciting country is the National Capital 1/2 or full Marathon in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada!! It sells out every year.

I received some info about running a race in Burmuda at the Philly RnR 1/2 marthon. The man said it was really not too expensive for 4 days..it was a very interesting idea..day one you run 1 mile..next day you do a 10k or 5k then the next day you run a 1/2 or full marathon..you get medals for each race but you don't have to run each day if you don't want to...

This race is so fun!! Huge amounts of food and beer at the expo, at the race, and afterwards too.
It is a great course and well run with lots of volunteers.

The Living History Farms XC race is the most fun at a race I have ever had and I ran it by myself last year. It totally kicked my ass and I had the best time!

I personally would love to run the Omaha marathon since it has a barefoot division and has finishers medals made by local glass blowers out of recycled glass.

I would love to do the Mind The Ducks 12 hour in Rochester NY too.

Chicago is a fun race, as I am running that. My town is hosting it first full Marathon in April (Kalamazoo Marathon), they have done half marathons for 30 years.

Ooo...you should definitely run Carlsbad. It's GORGEOUS and totally worth getting up at 3am to drive up there from downtown SD. :)

The Cleveland Marathon is great for a 1st marathon. (It was mine!) It's got the perks of a bigger race without the price. The course is relatively flat and there's fantastic crowd support for most of the race. Good luck!

Since I live in Orlando, suggesting a great race is easy (if you're looking for a BIG race w/ all the bells and whistles).

Disney Marathon Weekend (early January)

Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend (late Feb/early March)

My favorite for atmosphere and the associated cause: Miracles Miles 5K and 15K (mid/late Sept) - supports NICU babies at Arnold Palmer Hospital

A fave for folks who fly in:
OUC Half Marathon first weekend in December - awesome weather usually!

I'm looking forward to seeing you compiled list!!
